Shiba Inu and Polar Bear Crochet Christmas Present Pattern

Friends, today I will introduce you to 2 different crochet designs that resemble tiny surprises for Christmas. These toys are polar bear and Shiba inu. It is recommended to use green, yellow, white, red and brown chenille yarn in making crochet toys. In addition to these, it is recommended to use a 5mm crochet hook to make the toy.

The crochet toy has very vibrant colors but unfortunately it is not an amigurumi that we can call beginner level. However, there is still a lot of time until Christmas. If you wish, you can make these toys during this long process.

Hook: 5mm
Green chenille size 4 medium
Yellow chenille size 4 medium

Brown cotton/acrylic yarn

Present

Start with green yarn for the shiba inu or red yarn for the polar bear
R1: 4sc in a mr (4)
R2: (3sc in the same st)x4 (12)
R3: sc, 3sc in the same st, (2sc, 3sc in the same St)x3, sc (20)
R4: 2sc, 3sc in the same st, (4sc, 3sc in the same St)x3, 2sc (28)
R5: 3sc, 3sc in the same st, (6sc, 3sc in the same st)x3, 3sc (36)
R6: BLO 36sc (36)
R7-13: 36sc (36) – 7 rounds
Put a stitch marker in the first BLO st
R14: FLO 36hdc (36)
R15: 36hdc (36)
Cut yarn and FO with an invisible join

Shiba Inu / Polar Bear

Take yellow (for the shiba inu) / white (for the bear) yarn and insert the hook in the BLO st where you put the stitch marker and make:
R1: sc, dec, (4sc, dec)x2, sc, BO st, 2sc, dec, BO st, 3sc, dec, 4sc, dec, 3sc (30)
Start stuffing as you go, while stuffing pay attention on keeping the present’s shape and leave the base flat
R2-4: 30sc (30) – 3 rounds
R5: (3sc, dec)x6 (24)
Insert the safety eyes on R3-4, 3sts apart
R6: (2sc, dec)x6 (18)
R7: (sc, dec)x6 (12)
R8: 6dec (6)
Cut yarn and sew closed

Snout

Use white yarn
R1: 4sc in a mr (4)
Cut yarn and leave a long tail for sewing, make an invisible join

Shiba’s ears

Make 2, if you want to add the hat make 1
Use yellow yarn
R1: ch3, starting from the 2nd ch from the hook make a sc and a hdc
Cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing

Bear’s ears

Make 2, if you want to add the hat make 1
Use white yarn
R1: 4sc in a mr (4)
Cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing

Hat

Start with white yarn
R1: 4sc in a mr (4)
R2: 4sc (4)
R3: change to red BLO 4sc (4)
R4: inc, 3sc (5)
R5: 5sc (5)
R6: (inc, sc)x2, inc (8)
R7: 8sc (8)
R8: (inc, sc)x4 (12)
R9: 12inc- cut a long tail of red yarn to sew the hat
R10: change to white sl st, ch2, (2sl st, ch2)until the end of the row

Sewing

Sew the ears on R5-6
Sew the snout on R3-4 and with brown acrylic/cotton yarn sew the nose (for the bear sew it flat)
Sew the eyebrows on R4-6 (2 sts wide)
Sew the hat to the head and then attach the hat’s tip to the hat’s body by inserting the needle at R3 and then back into the hat at R4

Present details

Cut a very long tail of red/green yarn and sew the vertical stripes in the center on each side of the box (pic 8)
Cut another long tail of red/green yarn and wrap it around the box making a bow (pic 9-10), with the remaining ends using a sewing needle go through the side on one stripe and exit on the other side of the same stripe (pic 11), do that for all the present’s side
Then weave in the ends and if needed glue the bow to the present if it falls down
