Gingerbread Man for Beginners Free Crochet Pattern

Today I think we will continue our journey with beginner level crochet toys. I have previously shared 6 or 7 gingerbread man crochet patterns on my blog, but I think today I will share the easiest of these toys. The toy, which has a very simple design, will contribute a lot to you, especially in terms of improving yourself.

Gingerbread Man for Beginners Amigurumi Toy

Maybe it is not the right time for self-improvement because Christmas is coming, but if you like amigurumi toys and want to make one for Christmas, you can try this toy. You need to use chenille yarn when making the toy

YOU WILL NEED:

Chenille Chunky yarn in two colours. I used Teddy (1 100g ball) and White (1 100g ball). These ball will allow you to make up to 2-3 men.
5mm hook
Sewing needle
Plastic eyes
A strip of black DK yarn for the smile
Chenille yarn for cheeks and buttons.
Stuffing
Scissors

Information!

Sizing: This gingerbread man is approximately 9 inches tall. Size varies depending on the tension of your stitches.
This pattern in created in continuous rounds, you do not join rounds.
Use stitch markers or a piece of yarn to mark off the beginning and ends of rounds.
You can us an alternative to a Magic ring. Chain 2 and work 6 single crochets in the first chain.

ABBREVIATIONS:

– sc – single crochet
– sl st. – slip stitch
– inc – increase
– dec – decrease
– MR – magic ring
– ch. – chain
– BLO – back loop only

ARMS

Using teddy and 5mm hook.
Round 1 – 6 Sc in a MR (6)
Round 2 – 1 sc then inc’x3. (9)
Round 3 – sc in each st. (9)
Switch to white.
Round 4 – sc in each st. (9)
Switch to Teddy.
Round 5 – ‘1 sc then dec’ x3 (6)
Round 6-7 (2 rounds) – sc in each st. (6)
Lightly stuff the bottom half of the arm, fold over and 3sc through both sides. Fasten off.

LEGS

Using teddy and 5mm hook.
Round 1 – 5 Sc in a MR (5)
Round 2 – inc in each st. (10)
Round 3 – BLO Sc in each st. (10)
Change to white
Round 4 – Sc in each st. (10)
Change to teddy.
Round 5-8 (4 rounds) – sc in each st. (10)
Fasten off the first leg but do not fasten off the second as you will continue to work from the second leg.

BODY

Continue from the second leg.
Round 9 – ch 2 and slst. Into first leg, 10 sc in first leg, 2 sc across ch, 10 sc in second leg, 2 Sc across ch (24)
Round 10 – 17 (8 rounds)– sc in each st. (24)
Round 18 – ‘2 sc then dec’ x6 (18)
Stuff the legs and body. We are going to crochet the arms to the body in the next round.
Round 19 – 4 sc, 3 sc with arm, 6 sc, 3 sc with arm, 2 sc. (18)
Round 20 -‘1 sc then dec’ x6 (12)

HEAD

Continue from the body with teddy yarn and 5mm hook.
1. Round 21 – ‘1 sc then inc’ x6 (18)
2. Round 22– 2 sc then inc’x6 (24)
3. Round 23 – ‘3 sc then inc’x6 (30)
4. Round 24-28 (5 rounds) – sc in each st. (30) Switch to white yarn.
5. Round 29 – sc in each st. (30)
6. Switch to teddy yarn.
7. Round 30 – ‘3 sc then dec’ x6 (24)
8. Round 31– ‘2 sc then dec’ x6 (18)
9. Round 32 – ‘1 sc then dec’ x6 (12)
10. Round 33 – dec x6 (6).
11. Finish off and leave a tale to sew the hole at the top shut.

DETAILS

Add the safety eyes between rows 25 and 26 6 rows apart. Using black DK yarn add the smile under the eyes between rows 24 and 23 which is 4 stitches long. Using light pink chenille yarn sew the cheeks under neath the eyes between rows 24 and 25. Using red and green chenille yarn sew the buttons down the front of the body, spread them out evenly down the center.

Please note: you can use any yarn type or colour to decorate your gingerbread man!
