Axolotl is a very different species and has recently become popular among amigurumi toys. I usually come across large Axolotl amigurumi patterns, but this is the first time I come across an Axolotl amigurumi pattern the size of a keychain. I must admit that I liked how detailed the crochet pattern was. Such step-by-step detailed explanations greatly facilitate the making of the toy.
Axolotl Keychain Amigurumi Pattern Step by Step
If we talk a little about the materials to be used when making an Axolotl amigurumi toy, it is recommended that you use chenille yarn in 2 different colors. The other materials used are quite standard. By the way, it is recommended that you make the toy using a 3mm crochet hook.

Head & Gills
R1: in c1, ch2/mr, sc6-6
R2: inc 6 times -12
R3: sc in each st -12
DO NOT FO with c1. Secure with a st marker if needed.

*In c2, create the gills. In FLO, slst in next st, ch2, slst in second ch, slst in next st, ch2, slst in second ch, slst in same st, ch2, slst in second ch, slst in next st, fasten off, leaving a short end.

Skip 3 stitches and follow from * to create the second set of gills.

R4: continuing where you left off with c1, (in BLO, sc3, in both loops, sc3)x2 -12

Note: I like to tie the ends of the gills on the inside of the head for a cleaner look.
Add safety eyes now if using. Place them between rounds 2&3, centered with the gills.

R5: dec 6 times -6
R6: inc 6 times -6
Adjust bobble placement for rounds 7&9 as needed so the legs are centered.

R7: sc3, bobble, sc2, bobble, sc5 -12
R8: sc in each st -12
R9: sc3, bobble, sc2, bobble, sc5 -12
R10: (dec, sc2) repeat 3 times -9
R11: sc in each st -9
Stuff the body now.
R12: (dec, sc) repeat 3 times -6
R13: sc in each st -6
Slst and FO. Sew the bottom hole shut.

Note: I use 5 incomplete double crochets for my bobbles.
Tail
Crochet the tail directly onto the axolotl, starting with a slst on the bottom side (about 3 sts from the tip of the tail).

sc2 on the bottom, place 3sc into the tip of the tail, sc3 on the top, slst and FO.
Weave in any remaining ends.

If you have not added the eyes yet, do so now.
Embroider them between rounds 2&3, centered with the gills.
